The eye surgeon told me there was no restriction on running after surgery, except that I am not able to wash my hair for the first week. Dr. Google is much more conservative. Surgery was yesterday. Surgeon insists on at least a month between eyes. I had planned to run a marathon in late September but figured I'd take a week off training and back it down to a half marathon instead. Next eye is scheduled for a few days after the half marathon.
I sweat a lot when I run and cannot imagine going a week without washing my hair. Plus I am not even supposed to get any water near my eyes the first week, which means I can't even really wash my face. So I'm not running.
One day after surgery and going a little crazy missing my exercise of choice and wondering if there is anything I can do as cross training that would be safe. At the first follow up visit today, the doc was not happy with my eye pressure and now I have to use a couple of other eye drops to reduce the pressure in addition to the three I already am supposed to use. So I'm now afraid to do anything! I can't even really read or watch tv comfortably because my left eye is now set for distance and the right is still very myopic. Tried removing left eyeglass lens and that is worse. Eyes and brain just can't handle it. So to read or text or watch tv I have to do I think one-eyed. I'm stuck with podcasts, which put me to sleep if I am not doing something else at the same time!
When is it really safe to start running again? I don't feel like I am getting good information from the surgeon. I asked him if there was anything I could do to improve my ability to drive he said not really and I should just take my chances.
