17, male, gonna be a senior in hs
Prs: 17:49, 10:48, 4:52, 2:17
This past outdoor season was extremely unsuccesful. I started off the season with a Hip Injury (turned out to be IT Band syndrome). After sitting out for two weeks, I came back and ran 5:01 in my first race/run back. The rest of the season was downhill, as I ran many miles over 5:20, two miles over 12, etc.
At some point in the season (towards the end) I started getting some sharp pains in my hamstring area on my left leg. It is the lower area, kind've behind the knee and on the inside of the leg. I think its the hamstring, but I'm not really sure. Even with this, I still ran through it mostly and some days it was perfectly fine, but I ran a 2:18 towards the end of the season anyway.
So I've averaged ~60 mpw over the last 5 weeks, and during a tempo recently, I didnt really feel "pain" per say like I had experienced before, but the hamstrinf definitely didn't feel right. It felt like it was being pulled. And I didn't want to go any faster because I'm scared the pain will come vack, and I'd hate to end my senior season before it started.
I'm trying to go sub 17 really hard, and I don't want to mess it up. Any advice? Could this possibly be due to the IT Band problem (causing imbalances?) The IT Band problemis also on the left side.
Also, I'm not sure if this makes any sense or is just a coincidence, but a few days ago I made a thread about cadence and fixing my form, and I noted that all of my form problems seem to be on my right side. I just realized that all of my ovwruse/muscle injuries are on my left... does this make sense?
My form on my left sides seems to be pretty good, the fot strikes the ground perfectly, etc. The right side is the messed up side.
