Who runs/writes for this site? I like his in sites and interviews.
How accurate are his XC ratings, generally? Did he have one from 2017 I can view?

Thanks! Is the dude anonymous or do we know who he is?
Thanks for noticing. I have an about section on the page, but my name is Chaz Caiado and I have been covering HS running since 2003 for Louisiana Running/Milesplit/HSH at various points. I know that Tumblr isn't the most isn't the most visually appeasing site but it's very easy to use.
As far as accuracy, I did a look back at my preview, Tully's, Dyestat and Milesplit last year for both the pre-season and for NXN. Accuracy was very similar (except for Milesplit for their NXN preview, which was way off).
I'm hoping for more content this year as there are some writers from various parts of the country helping with some articles. If you have any questions feel free to email me at

We appreciate your work! Thanks for everything!
Chaz,
Thanks for sharing your insight and passion. Your logic and analysis help us to follow an underappreciated sport. Good luck - it's impossible to prognosticate without getting flak on this forum, especially, and good for you for continuing to do so in the public eye.

Using times to rank teams in XC is completely silly. First, Utah and Illinois teams won't be ranked well considering most their races are 3 miles, as well as several big CA races. Secondly, the courses are freaking different. Milesplit doubles down on their time rankings for XC every year, then they added FLO 50, only to also release a ranking in tandem with Tully the last couple years. They have no clue what they are doing so they are just trying everything.

Are you looking for more writers? Specifically are you looking for someone to write about the northeast?

We're looking in most areas of the country still, so send me an email with you info and I'll let you know where we stand in that state/region.
I had the displeasure of meeting the editor at some summer meets and he has some disturbingly juvenile political views. He would fit in well with Jamin et al here.
Agree 100% with MileSplit rankings being a joke. My major frustration is their use of times only for their previews. It’s lazy “journalism” if it can be called that.
Frumtr had a comment on why all of a sudden Smithson Valley has an amazing team based on last years times. The district 5K they ran was short of 3 miles. My team ran it two weeks earlier and it measured just about 40m over three miles from two coaches who wheeled it. That course has never been a 5K. On top of that, they eliminated a hill from each lap shortening the course by roughly 100-150m.
So, two weeks prior, it’s a 3M; then you remove a section and it gets longer. Umm, no.
That’s why SVHS (and that entire district) has insane PRs from last year. They ran a short 5K on a course that has never been a 5K.
They’re good for our area, but nationally, no way.
My frustration with MS is not that they get things wrong, and they do, it’s that there is no good way to inform them so they can make corrections. The comments section is worthless as they don’t seem to ever check them. At least on Athletic.net they have button for corrections and every time I have used it, they have made the correction. It’s about accountability not perfection.
I wonder if HighSchoolHarrier will be doing the rankings for this fall.
Yes there will be fall rankings but they will be different than previous years. They won't be an attempt to predict NXN like previous years though. Thanks for your interest.
