I've been trying out a couple shoes toward a BQ at Chicagoland. Just got the NB Beacon as an alternate to GRR7s. Also have Napalis, and did a recent 20 in them but never a real fan. Still breaking in perhaps. Ran a couple of 7-10 milers in the Beacon, along with a couple of strides the other day. Haven't tried Peg Turbo (but intrigued by all the Vaporfly hype).
For me - Beacons are noticeably light, a more generous toe box than the GRR7, look better and I will say the sole has great grip on dry pavement. Compared to the Napali, they do have a more rounded profile on the edge of the sole giving it a more natural feel you may not be used to (I also run in Altra Escalantes so used to some rocking and rolling down there). Despite the stack of the foam, its pretty firm, similar to Napali imho. But like the Napali, I personally don't find them particularly responsive or fast.
FWIW, I did my own shoe testing the other day after a run in the NB Beacons, then switched to the GRR7 (insoles removed), Adios Boost 3, back to Beacon and then GRR7. Despite the extra weight, the GRR7s were noticeably more lively and faster for me. The foam has both more give and response, along with a nicer rocker profile.
I may give the Beacons another shot during a long run, but going with GRR7s at this point. The extra response and stability I think will be appreciated by my tired legs at the end of the marathon (I did do a marathon for training this spring in the GRR7s with the insoles in, but insoles removed is the way to go though).
Only other shoes I may try are the NB 1400v6 or Escalante Racer. Since my course is a bunch of flat loops, think I could get away with a little less cushion for less weight - as long as the ride feels fast and enjoyable.
Good luck.
