Is it just me, or are anti-beer snobs a million times more annoying than beer snobs?

There seems to be an idea that blue collar people can't be snobs, which is nonsense. If you're going to stand here and tell me that your beer choice is superior to mine and that my beer preference is wrong/stupid, then YOU are the beer snob. This is true even if you're drinking Bud and I'm drinking a craft brew.

That's where you're wrong. If you order a light, you can expect to get ridiculed by a neckbeard, they can't help themselves. Drinking a light beer requires you do preemptively defend yourself nowadays.

Anyway, your first mistake is going to happy hour at all. I'd honestly take just about any discussion over shop talk. Nothing wastes a good buzz more than f'ing Dave from accounting yapping on about how his manager is worthless. Give me the classic micro vs macro debate any day.

Some of the snobbiest people I've ever met take excessive pride in their blue collar-ness.

Many of whom are fine people.

Just be glad you have people to talk to.

It is a matter of passion vs. snobbery.

You are comparing people who seem to know a great deal about beer (comparing hops, balance, maltiness, etc) and people who just want to bring them down.

People who are passionate about something can always be fun to interact with if you have even basic empathy.

People who like to bring others down for opposing tastes are rarely enjoyable to be around long term.

To be honest, I never run into these anti-beer snobs. The places I frequent usually don't have any of the beer they would drink. Ok, some of the places may have a single token beer, like PBR.

One time I was in Beer Revolution in Oakland, CA. BR is an incredible craft beer bar. Some guy walks in and looks over the 60-tap beer menu. He can't find what he is looking for. He then asks the bartender for a Miller Lite. The bartender goes, "We don't do that kind of beer here." The guy walks out.

yeah that's kind of the problem.

He turned off a potential lifetime customer by likely reaffirming the guys assumptions about craft beer.

It's for snobs and they don't make non-hoppy beers.

the bartender should have said "Oh ok, you're looking for a lager or something similar. Here try a taste of this pilsner and tell me what you think."

This. Haven't actually run into an anti-beer snob, but that does sound annoying.

But being cornered by an "I drink fancy beer" person telling you about their beer is a special level of hell.

On one of the ultra podcasts I listen to, I've never heard the end of a show because toward the end the host always starts talking with the guest about beer. Drinking beer is nice, but I can't imagine anything less interesting than listening to other people talk about beer.

Of course, here we are talking about people who talk about beer, so that's probably even lower.

As someone who used to pound down a 30 pack a night I must say I always found the Bud Lite die hard's the worst. They know they are drinking crap. Why do they even defend it?

My 30 packs of High Life were tasty but I drank them because a 30 pack was $9.99. How can you beat that when you are drinking yourself into a coma.

A six pack will last me between 6 months to a year now. I sure as heck will not buy High Life with all the tasty micros out there.

Germans are the original beer snobs . Good thing they're confining their efforts at "purity" to beer, rather than humans.

I know! I was drinking with some Mormons and they were like Beer! And I was all like Whu!!!!???? And they were all like "Whuh!!!!" ???

As a beer snob, I've also witnessed this. Many of the places I frequent just don't carry that kind of beer (Miller, Natty, etc.). They do usually have Bud, though. My bartenders have even told me that they price Bud Light at 4-5 bucks to deter people from ordering it, so they will order a nice craft beer instead since it will be the same price. I do agree that a good bartender will try to persuade the potential buyer into something else, and I often see my local bartenders do this (give samples, etc.)

I’m an anti beer snob as I use beer as a means to an end to meet women.

While these neck beards are circklejerking about their beer for hours I’m out picking up women.
