I am a completely pedestrian 35 year old male who ran a 3:15 marathon last winter on an average of 48 miles per week over the 20 weeks before the race. For the year I had just under 2000 total miles. In my build up I ran a 19:30 5k, 1:30:05 half, and did 10x800 with 2 mins rest at 3:07 per. So I think I have the speed; just need the strength that comes from more miles. I know it's a mix of an art and a science, but I am curious if others think I need to average like 55mpw leading up to my next race or would it need to be more significant like 60 or 65? Keep in mind this is average not peak. I am still 7 months from my next race and already at 50mpw again so feeling good about safely ramping up if need to. Just don't want to get hurt. Thanks all!
