The first mile world record by a med student is an easy one, of course.
I really can't think of anybody else. All the other top milers that i thought were doctors when i looked them up just now, actually were phds and none of them did their phd until after retiring from running.
Don't know about miles other than Bannister of course. But fastest 400 by med student? 44.59NR by R. Black 1986?
bannister
daniel lincoln
has to be 100s in the list before we get to DT McDonald. Still I respect everything he is doing

Isn't Laura Muir a med student or something in medicine?

Ah, veterinary medicine. Probably doesn't count
I know 2 recent med students; one ran 4:11 in the mile, and the other ran a 1:04:48 half marathon.
4:14 in med school is impressive, but I suspect the poster who said there will be 100 names on the list ahead of him was right.
I immediately thought of Bob Kempainen. For the marathon his PR is 2:08:47. He ran the Olympic marathon in 1992 and 1996.
USATF does not list a 1500/mile best for him. He has a 3k PR of 8:00.

Lincoln did not race in med school.
I believe Adam Davis (ran for Rice) got close to sub 4 early on in med school, or was at least still running under 1:50 for the 800. This would have been 2007-2008ish.
I don’t want to brag, but I turned in some 6 minute miles whilst a student. These would have been on a treadmill...GPS units weighed 2 pounds back then and I can’t imagine why anyone would want to run on a track.
Med school is not impressive..i breezed through it and it was way easier than real life. Its easier to become a doctor than to run a sub 4 min mile i got assure you that. I wanna know fastest mile by someone that works on an offshore oil rig 16 hours a day.
Not really impressed wrote:

Strava or it didn’t happen.
Roughly 10 - 20 American men break 4:00 for the first time each year. Worldwide, the number might be three to five times as large.
Way more people become doctors.

Bobby Torphy (mile) and Brock Baker. Graduated from UNC med school a few years ago.
If Brian Barrazza got into medical school,
And he ran 1200m in 2:53 and facecplanted (as he has a way of doing)
LRC would GIVE him the sub four!!!!!!

She has only run a 4:18 mile
Jack Lovelock set the WR and won gold when he was already a Doctor.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
