One guy is already one of the best sophomores of all time (Sprout) (PRs: 1:55/4:12a/8:49/14:48xc). Cruz has the genes and only started training this year (according to him, kind of hard for me to believe, though) (PRs: 1:54/4:12a/15:23xc). Setting aside the XC season, where Sprout was great but Culpepper wasn't really in it (not sure why), this spring, they were almost undoubtedly the two most impressive sophomores, and both run in 4A in Colorado. Has the makings of a very nice rivalry.
Anyone know how much Sprout trains? Anyone know about Culpepper, or why he was so far back at state in XC (44th)? I know he tripped in the 800 in track and conditions were pretty bad in the 1600 with a solid field.
I have to imagine he is pretty well-trained to dominate state so thoroughly as a soph. Breaking Eric Hulst's record was amazing. Both have the potential to be the first highschoolers to run under 4:10/9:00 in CO. Pretty neat.
