Hi everyone, I'm posting here to discuss the possibility of walking-on a D-1 team. I am currently a rising sophomore, and I have returned to consistent training over the past 5 months. I was on pace during my high school senior season to run at a D-1 school and had received an offer to walk-on at a D-1 school before my senior xc season, but my season ended early with two femoral stress fractures and I attended a school with better academics due to my situation. I was unable to compete that season or my senior track season, and couldn't start running again until mid-freshman year of college.
I'm back into training consistently now at 40-45 mpw and want to increase training volume to have my best shot at walking on to the varsity xc team. While I understand this is likely unattainable this fall, does anyone have any similar experiences or know the possibility of walking on junior year?
Any advice about how I should go about this, such as how fast/how much I should increase my volume to regain fitness and prepare for the upcoming club xc season would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
