Commentators lack of knowledge of Kawauchi

My favorite part of watching the Majors is enjoying the warm inner glow of knowing I know more than the hack commentators.

I agree.

The announcer was making fun of him and mentioned that withing a couple miles somebody would give him a piano to carry.

Mr. Kawauchi made the announcer look like a fool.

A great performance by a great runner.

Hopefully Mr. Kawauchi will get invited to NYC this November and give it a go.

And yet no one cares. I hope dedicating your life to a niche runner in a niche sport is worth it. You might win a jeopardy question one day.

I disagree. Even if it’s something niche, yesterday’s race was an inspiration. What a gutsy performace by Yuki. One thing that commentators were making that was right is how the mens race had a super fast pace unlike the womens race. However they've failed to acknowledge kawauchi was the reason for the tempo of the race.

His racing style should have been acknowlegded. He blew up the entire field. Even kirui was affected where he bonked from the initial fast pace of the race.

Kawauchi is the man. Hes an inspiration.

That reminds me of the incident in 2014 where NYPD motorcycle rider ran him off road when Kawauchi had broken from lead pack as he did yesterday. I hope that police officer finally comes forward and apologizes for his action that day though he could have mistaken Kawauchi for an intruder who had just stepped onto the course from the sideline and wasn't part of the runners in the race.

Watching the replay as I type. Al is an idiot doing the Tour de France, but he's completely insane trying to talk during Boston. Rawson is beyond an idiot as usual.

Much as Ruho and bro suck, they should do the voice-over. Or I should.

They couldn't even name people right in front of them if they were watching the same feed we were. They didn't recognize anyone without the bibs with their names. They would ask where's Molly Huddle, and she'd be right there in the front of the pack.

They also totally butchered Kawauchi's name even after they corrected themselves in the beginning. And they called him on and off "Yuri" till the very end. I hate them. But one more than the other.

I'm not sure if I hate them calling the pack "the peleton." Maybe that's ok.

Don't forget how "Yuri" was "long gone" from the peloton, when he was, in fact, at that very second, surging from the peloton, where he'd been, to the leader, then stringing everyone out for the fifth or tenth time.

Its true. How could anyone who follows running not know Larry Rawson? His horrible commentating is legendary.

I hope Kawauchi never runs NYC again (has he since?), I had totally forgotten about this. Total epic bullsh**.

Yep would like for that guy to have eaten more crow for his early comments. He seemed more intent on proving his "keys to victory" of not leading for the first 25km were more correct.

The one good thing I noticed about the commentary was that they did occasional shut up and have moments of silence. Over on the BBC Steve and Brendan and now Paula try to fill every minute with inane chatter.

As for the coverage, they completely managed to miss Kawauchi's comeback. I get that they want to show Desi's final mile as first Amercian woman to win in years but five minutes of her jogging along main street when they could have been split-screening was poor. The most exciting part of the men's marathon was missed. No wonder people don't watch them.
