If you have kids and suffer a setback in your career or have an unforeseen expense that eats away your savings, your life will be completely miserable. You'll face tremendous pressure, from your wife wanting to leave you to your kids getting short changed to everyone around you that will be watching your every move like a hawk.
My advice: make sure you have substantial savings (at least 2 years of living expenses) and have good job security, do not even think about kids. This is a bare minimum. Ideally you should have passive income from investments/side-gigs, parents that can help you financially if someting happens, 3-4 years of cash savings to cushion a fall and rock-solid job security with good pay and benefits.
