Does your salary depend on you performing well and finishing in the money positions? Does your next marathon pay you less appearance money when you under perform? Does Galen Rupp dropping out of this race in terrible conditions save his body for another attempt in the near future? Dropping out sounds like good business decisions based on knowing that he was having a bad day that would result in mostly negatives for his career (save the idiots on LR bashing him, but that would happen anyway).

very few distance runners we watch have strong personalities, especially the very good elites. even if Rupp doesn't really have one (yes, it seems that way) who cares?! he's a runner, not an entertainer. He's awkward and uncomfortable in interviews, so he just runs. the irony in your statement is, that most distance runners are awkward and shy. He's kind of like the embodiment of the the skinny awkward high school cross country kids that dominate the demographic at XC meets.

jerry schumacher doesn't talk to anyone, so we don't even know if we like him or not. most coaches stay out of the spotlight. name some other coaches you know a lot about that are in the spotlight.....

i think, if you really think hard about some of the things you say and think, you will realize you don't have much actual invested thought. i'd like to see a list of runners and coaches you like and why. I think you'll have pretty flimsy convictions or quickly realize it's just your gut feeling you are relying on. dig deeper.

The issue was probably the moisture in the air more so than the cold. I had a teammate with asthma who was way below his normal self when it was cold and raining.

Apparently Rupp's asthma didn't kick in while he was busy running 2:09 pace into the wind thru 10k.

That's always been their M.O. If they know they're going have a meaningless outcome then why expend the energy but rather save themselves for the next race.

The Ethiopians and for the most part Kenyans were completely incapable of competing today because of the weather, they were unprepared and according to Sarah Hall don't even both training in the rain. I fully understand the concept of dropping out if your race is going to be meaningless at that level, but these are professional runners who all had meaningless races because it was bad weather, that is pathetic.

Honestly stopped reading after you said "yet you don't like him" when I never said I didn't like him, I feel nothing towards him, he's just whatever to me.
