I have my hobbyjogger olympics coming up [SF RnR half thon]
rolling into it I've done a mix of hills and general hobbyjogging to specific mile and 5k work [mostly 5k] long runs up to around 7-8 at most. I normally do 2-3 half races/year although lately have been focusing on the 5k and reducing the long run.
I've also been skipping tempo/half paced workouts in favor of mile/5k stuff
Should I lower my expectations and go easy? 5K performance and mile are faster than when I set my half PR last year [1:35 hehe]
but I was expecting to be able to go faster as my 5K took another :40s dip vs when I ran that half PR, so I was expecting to be able to take 2 minutes off this or so and target 1:33
is that reasonable or am I probably expecting to blow up?
last year I was around 18-20 mpw with more frequent tempos/long runs and a tri program
this year the same but no long runs past 7-8, no tempos and only 5k stuff really and intervals based on 5k paces.
volume up a bit and more hills, some 35 mile weeks but avg'ing about 20-25 and still the same tri program volume
was just wondering for a game plan given that I also recently got sick so theres just no way for me to even practice a 6 miler at race pace before the event.
its a different course and somewhat less hilly than before so I have that going for me lol
should I expect to be faster or no idea? I assume being 40s faster in a 5K means I should be able to push my half pace even though I havent done any LT runs in like 6 months
