They basically ended the footage and said "There's no one left that has a chance". They said Anna Veith won the gold.
They go to figure skating. Ester Ledecka wins the gold! I don't think they showed it live.

USA media at work.
For clarification, not my tweet above. We have a chance to see the marquee events live, and they royally screw for some boring figure skating routines. "Dewey Defeats Truman".

they announced Veith as winner even on Austrian TV. nobody expected Ledecka to win, was a huge upset. probably the wind helped her a little bit, but nevertheless well deserved. the amazing thing about Ledecka is that she is also competing in snowboarding, that's actually her main event. fascinating stuff, have never heard of an athlete competing in two different disciplines. kudos to her!

Ever heard of Lolo Jones?
What happened to that anti-Trump lady Lindsay Vonn, who wanted to compete against males?

She didn’t medal. I think she decided to ski first, so she couldn’t get info from her teammates about the course conditions. She hadn’t done any practice runs on it either.

You don´t do practice runs in super G.
This was NBC doing the "Heidi Game" all over again, but with Alpine skiing instead of NFL football; they blew a chance to show something historic and shocking happening live.
I've never understood the practice of broadcasters and even the athletes themselves acting as if a ski race's results are set in stone after only the first 15 skiers come down the mountain; as Ester Ledecka showed tonight, that can be hubristic. Victories from the lower seeds might be rare, but they're not impossible,
Lindsey Vonn’s first Olympic race in eight years included one obvious, late mistake that she was sure cost her a medal — maybe even the gold.
Truth is, the American generally considered the greatest female ski racer in history botched things in the upper half of the super-G course Saturday, too. She wound up tied for sixth place.
Vonn’s take on her run? “Really good. Really good. Really good. Baaaad.”
The four-time overall World Cup champion focused after Saturday’s race on a particular miscue when she allowed one of her skis to lift off the snow too much and swept several feet wide of the proper path.
Vonn also lost quite a bit of time earlier: She reached the halfway point of the race with only the 16th-best time.
There was wasn't much likelihood that someone in the high 20s would break in. If they hadn't switched away to the figure skating so we could watch the best skate we would have had to watch some much slower people. NBC must be given credit because they moved right back and showed us the race. Then they interviewed the racer. It wasn't like they stopped the coverage.
So you didn't find out the correct results? What is the problem?
At some point they have to cut it off. Mexico and Kenya aren't going to win gold.
People are entitled whiny little bitches.
FIrst they cry on twitter that NBC showed some skiing instead of some figure skating thing, and now they are crying because they showed some figure skating thing instead of skiing.
NBC gets no credit. They declared Vieth the winner.
How did Vonn do? Vonn goes home devastated, but at least she wasn't fourth.

She actually said so in the interview: "At least I was fifth! I'm glad I didn't come fourth!"

She didn't "decide" to go first. Nobody does in super-G. It was the bad luck of the draw.
If she had drawn a later slot, she would have had a line to follow and very probably would not have made that mistake at the end of her run when she drifted off course.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
