Google to blame for Florida shooting? Nikolas Cruz vowed to be a shooter on youtube, but FBI couldn't get his identity

It's amazing to me that the FBI, armed with the potential shooter's real name and the know profile of school shooters (male, 16-25, disgruntled or on meds), were "unable to further identify the person who made the comment."

I'm not saying the FBI was great here. Yes they likely screwed up. You or I would probably just have posted the video on this forum and some guy would have figured out the person's real name but that's not the point. The FBI has limited resources. The shouldn't need a court order to get the name a youtube poster.

Local police also can't find a connection between "Nikolas Cruz" and the supposed white supremacist that claims him.

Of course, Info-Wars has many near-victims who claim there was a second shooter.

Why should they be ashamed? They have a duty to protect their customer's data. In this case, and with many other cases involving access to devices/email after an attack, it's a facade that the FBI needs access to the information...the FBI just wants unfettered "legal" access to anyone's data they want. It's about legal precedent.

Making all of our personal info unsafe under the guise of "safety" is ridiculous. I'm gonna assume you don't really understand the real implications of what you're asking.

They let him slip on purpose.

If anything, it's on the FBI. But they get more than 100 of these kinds of threats per day, they have to make a judgment call on each one about whether there is a real threat or not, and whether there is a crime to even go after. They followed up and apparently made the call not to subpoena Google for more information. I don't see in news reports that Google was even contacted.
