I'm posting under a different handle than I usually do because I'm not the most popular guy here...
Like everyone on Letsrun I have a pretty good job as an engineer. I make about 60k a year and my wife makes about 40k. Back in 2013 I fell ill and missed about 3 months of work on top of accumulating some pretty significant medical expenses. Once I got back to work, we started working on the debt and all was going well. All is still going well as we recently received some great news. We're expecting a child after being told that we would be unable to have one. Because of my wife's health, this is going to be considered a "high risk" pregnancy and we're expecting extra appointments and tests and it's likely that my wife will be unable to work for at least the last few weeks of pregnancy, plus for whatever amount of time we're able to afford after the baby is born.
We still have about $6000 in debt from my illness and are terrified that we're either going to default on it with the costs of the pregnancy and child or that we'll be unable to get our child the care it might need.
Like I said, we have pretty good jobs so I hate to ask when I know it could be so much worse, but if anyone is able to help or share this, please do. Thank you all.
Also, I ran a 4:38 mile in 2008. That's the best I've got. Sorry.
