Dear all,
I have a question about Jack Daniels' approach in the last part of his training plans (phase IV).
Suppose that your goal race is a 10k. If you follow Daniels' schedule, an emphasize is put on T pace. R and I paces have been developed in phase II and III, but are still present in phase IV to maintain the adaptation.
As I and T paces are targeting some physiological adaptations (e.g. threshold and VO2 max), this training does improve performance. However, it does not target 10k pace, except when racing. Of course, 10k pace lies between I and T paces.
By following this schedule, you do not learn to run at your target 10k pace. Is it still optimal ? For short-term or long-term results ?
One can say the same for Half-Marathon pace, which lies between T and M paces, except if you run HM in ~ 1h.
