Ben Dover was a famous athlete that did good when he went from high to low mileage. The more he bent to low mileage the better he got.
High or low mileage, I think the key factor to either success is track)cc back ground in highschool or college. Now how many are successful with out this? Ed Whitlock comes to mind

I had some high at 100-180 miles per week. Cut to 60-70 miles per week and ran faster than ever. From 15 at 5 k down to 14.20. A well balanced low mileage week beats a high mileage week every week in the year!
