Reading shoe reviews and threads, it's clear shoe fit and experience is very much a personal and subjective view. I'm looking at some of the Saucony shoes with a lower heel drop (haven't run in Saucony in years). And I'm a bit worried about the lower heel drop.
Are shoes with a high heel drop better for mid or forefoot strikers and shoes with a low or zero drop better for heelstrikers? My thinking is if you already land on the forefoot, a higher drop will encourage your heel to take some of the load, whereas your achilles tendons might do all the work in a low or zero heel drop. Conversely, if you are prone to landing heel first, clearly a higher heel drop is going to accentuate that whilst a low heel drop will bring the forefoot into play with less impact.
