Eliud Kipchoge has officially been deemed marketable by his high-paying sponsors, and as a result, his public appearances and media obligations have increased tenfold. According to his Instagram page, he has -- just in the past month -- been to Hong Kong, New York City, and Oxford.
One of the reasons East African runners do so well is their ability to focus almost entirely on training in an environment that is well-suited to running. Distractions are kept to a minimum, there aren't thousands of cars/trucks passing by to pollute the air, and dirt roads are readily available.
But Kipchoge isn't afforded those luxuries when he's globe trotting to promote his sponsors. Instead, he's forced to deal with a lousy sleep schedule, loads of restaurant/fast foods, the air pollution of major cities/airports, and far less time to train. Obviously I don't knock him for making his money -- I would be doing the same thing for far less. But I do wonder if this lifestyle will begin to take a toll on what very well may be a 40-year-old body.
What do you guys think? Is Kipchoge training throughout this insane schedule? What is he eating? Will all of this come back to bite him come April?
