Hasay has shown to be a fish in the water in the marathon distance. Amy Cragg's winning time that day in LA was 2:28. Hasay, given the hot weather, if she had the same fitness as she did in Boston, probably could have run 2:24-2:26 in those conditions. Even if she wasn't quite as fit then as she was by the following Spring, she probably could have run away with the Trials victory handily by running 2:27 or 2:28 low. That isn't debatable.
But my question is, how would Hasay have performed at the Olympics? Shalane had an amazing day in Rio and came in 6th, running 2:25. Hasay could likely have beat Shalane that day and possibly even snagged Bronze from Mare Dibaba by beating 2:24:30.
Also, how would Hasay have done at this year's World Championships Marathon? It was won in 2:27!!
If Hasay had run it, Team USA could have come away with 2 Medals in Women's Marathon- Gold and Bronze. This would accompany the Double Medal Sweep in the Women's Steeplechase.
I really hope Jordan runs the Olympic Marathon in Tokyo 2020, even if it's not a "premier" WMM and probably not as big of a payday as London or Berlin. I'd love to see American Women dominate the distance.
