I'm not watching the video, but this basically happened to me. He'll be just fine faster than you think if my experience is common. I broke both lower leg bones right in the middle of my shin in compound fashion and had my shin folded about 90 degrees with the foot rotated the wrong way, which is what I'm gathering happened to Heyward.
My leg healed completely in about 9 months. I was a teenager and didn't have hardware put in, so maybe that matters. Bottom line is that I never had another problem with the leg. The injury is as painful as it looks, but I've met many people who've had common joint surgeries who are worse in the long term.
