Right. If they are fit, they could resume regular training almost immediately under the circumstances you described. I once paced a friend to a time 29 minutes slower than my PR and was able to resume training within a few days. I experienced no problems.
When you say you "resumed training", did you mean to say that you "took a few days off and then started running easy", or was it more like "started running easy the day after the marathon and resumed hard workouts soon after"?
Would you say your effort used to pace your friend was pretty similar to one of your long runs?
