He was entered as his dad
He was entered as his dad
I wonder what the point was. 1:18 is an easy paced run for him
Saw him at mile 4, had to do a double take, just cruisin 6s
I saw him at the start area. I thought I was having hallucinations.
Can confirm, he was pacing a buddy and dropped out at 17, probably to go watch Rupp finish. I ran in their pace group, just cruising along at 6 min pace. Coolest day of my running life, got to chat with him a bit. Told me to “fvck the math, just lock in baby†when I was discussing my race plan with another guy in the pack. Will tell my grandkids about that one day.
Lol i love that. Wish he would've told me that back in the day when I was the biggest overthinker.

I can also confirm. Talked to him on Saturday at an elementary cross country meet - he's buddies with some people from Chicago's Latin School. He said he entered with his dad's birthday so it wouldn't turn into too big of a deal. He also said Nike wanted him to run in their 4% shoes but Salazar told him not to - it turned into a whole political thing. I was so very impressed with Centro - really down to earth, super approachable, and gave a great speech to the kids about falling in love with the sport in 8th grade. Really cool guy and made me all the more happy that he won in Rio. In an age when so many of our sports stars disappoint outside of the field of play, this guy stands out as one of the good ones.
Salazar said don't wear the shoes?
Can Nike/NOP even be more bizarro?
That is awesome! He just seems like the kinda guy that can strike up a conversation with anyone. Very personable and fun to be around.
So he entered with his real name? Lame. Should have made up a fake name.

That quote needs to go up on a poster.

It worked too, I ran a huge PR
QCWannbe!! Tracksmith best? I'm Jack, the English runner who was in that pack first 12 miles before I started vomiting!
Salazar, rightly, didn’t want Centro to do a training run in racing shoes. PR dept probably wanted Centro to run in them though. Salazar is a coach, not PR dept. coach wins that argument. I certainly wouldn’t want my athletes doing their long run in racing shoes.

That’s me. Real pleasure running with you man, I know I wouldn’t be able to stick that pace for 12 on only 40 mpw like you said. Running in that pack was just one of those unreal life moments that can’t be planned for, it just happens. Great stuff.

Really?
You want your athletes to go 26+ miles in shoes they have never tested?
BTW... tested the 4%'s... had achillies issues for a few days afterwards... over rated IMO and I wear 'racing shoes' on every run.

You needed a valid ID to pick up your packet
"F the math, just lock in baby" is literally the best running advice I have ever heard. Been thinking of this quote the last couple weeks. Thank you, Centro.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
