Lets say a guy runs 13:59 in college and then hangs up the spikes and jogs to not get fat but never really goes after it again. Is that more impressive than someone who runs 50 mpw for years, fighting for a BQ and stays in great shape their whole life but never runs an impressive PR
Most definitely the guy who ran the 13:59. That is an impressive feat while running anything over 230 is not even close. Idc if you jog a couple 250s or even run 20 of them. The first guy is far more impressive.
I'd hardly call 13:59 a spicy pr. Spicy is sub 13:30.
yeah but the 13:59 guy might put on 100lbs and just rely on the his past accomplishments to satisfy his ego while the person who just happens to be less talented is still logging the miles and putting in work for years. You can't control your talent level and even though I know it takes great discipline to get under 14, it's still only for a handful of years versus someone who's plugging away for decades but wasn't lucky enough to have the build/aerobic system/speed to be a great runner.
What about the guy that never breaks 15/2:30 but just keeps on going 16+/- at 40, 17+/- at 50, 18+/- at 60, 20+/- at 70 How does that compare to a 13:59-14:30 type in college who quit by 30?

A woman will be more impressed by a guy who jogs to not get fat. But she won't care about some silly college PR.
