If you say you study comp sci at CU Boulder but you don't actually attend, what's the best way to verify?

At CU? FORTRAN. It's the new big thing in comp sci. Cutting edge. If you know about FORTRAN that will "prove" you attended.

Why do you need to verify if you already know that you don't actually attend? (By "attend", do you mean "officially enrolled"?)

Means he lied on his resume.

This makes no sense. I'll take a stab at what think it is supposed to say: "If someone says he studies something at a given school but you don't think he actually does, what's the best way to verify that he is not a student there?"
The answer: I don't know. Maybe you could find someone who's enrolled at the school and have them look up the person's name in a student directory, but I have been out of college for 17 years so I don't know if that is in fact an option.
Why do you need to know anyway? Is someone applying for an internship with your company? Once things reach a certain point it'll become apparent if the applicant really does have the basic credentials that he says he does.

This person says they attend the university for comp sci but no one believes them. Is there some kind of online directory for verifying?

tell them that you were in Boulder once upon a time and had a really good hamburger on "the Hill"
pretend you forgot the name of it. ask them what the name is.
the correct answer is "The Sink"
everybody who is really at CU knows the place.

You can't just request some random person's transcript though.
The OP is apparently convinced someone is lying about being a student.
But the OP is not in a position to request official proof. He just wants to confirm that the person he suspects is lying, is in fact lying.
I would just follow him around for a week to see if he goes to any of these buildings:

Why does the OP care so much about someone's college enrollment? Seems random and boring. The OP doesn't have more important or fun things to do?
