Is the Decathlon Champion a better athlete than the CrossFit Champion?
Is the Decathlon Champion a better athlete than the CrossFit Champion?
Probably a better "athlete" but probably not as fit
What is the best way to decide who is more fit?

Hold a decathlon.
I thought one of cross-fit mantras was they didn't get ready for any specific event. So basically fit for nothing :) The cross-games are fun to watch. They're always different so once a guy/gal loses their supremacy, it's hard to say one was better than the other, in their peak, because they didn't really compete in the same event.
It's all fun to watch, just enjoy every sport.

A fair question and difficult to answer where the answer is most likely subjective.
There is sports or skill related fitness (comprising speed, agility, coordination, power, strength, mobility, stamina) and health related fitness (consisting of muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance and body composition). I think decathletes need and have more of the sports related components while cross fitters seemingly work on health related fitness.
Aren't crossfitters usually tiny? Like 5'6"
There is no doubt most people consider Mayer, Freimuth, and Kazmirek the best athletes in the world right now.
I mean, can you see a crossfitter ever running 10.4 seconds for 100, 46 for the 400, and jumping over 2 meters while being 6'3"-6'5" 200-220 lbs like Kazmirek and Freimuth?
I don't think so.

They're definitely fit, but they're doing cross-fit because they aren't great athletes. They're fitletes. Has that been coined yet?
ASHTON EATON COULD MAKE THE NFL AND MAT FRASER COULDNT. END OF DISCUSSION.
EDELMAN AND AMENDOLA AREN'T HALF THE ATHLETES OF EATON. I'M SERIOUS.

Yes you are correct

"Fit for nothing"?
The philosophy of Crossfit is that they are best suited - of any athletes - for most physical challenges that they might encounter in day-to-day life.
For example. helping a friend move a grand piano, or pushing a car out of deep mud, or walking miles to get help.

There are machines to do the first two example and I'd believe a runner would do better at going miles to get help.
0/10 Please don't be serious. Crossfitters are the biggest pussies in the world currently.

Do you think that Ashton Eaton would be the world cross fit champion?
and also so called "Coach"
Please provide the evidence showing he has the required hand eye coordination to catch a football, and the concentration to do it while being covered by another great athlete. Oh, and that he could survive the pounding he would undergo.

I looked over the events of this year's championship and I would say with proper training, it is likely. Would he be the best ever, definitely not.
MAT FRASER WAS TOP 10 IN RUN SWIM RUN...LOL. IS A JOKE RIGHT?
C'mon, some great football players have been great decathletes as well. There is surely some correlation between these two sports. I do not underestimate the handeye of NFL athletes but at the very worst Eaton would be an asset to a top tier QB. Do you even know how fast or how well he can jump?

Uh, yeah I know how fast he can run and how high he can jump - there's this thing called a record book - but that does not prove he can read a defense, run a route, or catch a ball, especially when being defended by a great athlete.
I'm stating that the cross fitters are not half the athletes eaton is. The fact that a low division 48 second quartermiler from ohio can dominate crossfit shows how track athletes can dominate a sport of mediocre athletes. Cross fit is a great activity for adults who want to get fit, most of us on this message board would be healthier if we did it. Period.
