I am a runner who just finished high school (18 year old female). I have a stress fracture really high up in my tibia (about 1 inch below my knee). I had been running about 30 mpw for many weeks, so I did not increase my mileage at all. It also set on super suddenly: I noticed a little tightness in my calf, and the next day I was in excruciating pain as I limped the rest of my run. There's also an extremely sore spot on my knee, and my knee pain was really severe the first few days of my injury. I have been recovering for 11 weeks now (only swimming and biking), and recently my doctor told me to try elliptical which was fine, but then he told me to try a jog/walk and I felt fine during it but the next day I was in a lot of pain.
I am really concerned that this is taking a long time to heal. I am also really concerned that this fracture is so high up my leg and that it set on so suddenly. My knee still aches, but not as severe as before. Does anyone know what could be going on? Is there possibly something that caused this kind of injury to pop up out of nowhere? My nutrition is good and I had good shoes and I was not adding on a lot of mileage, so I am a bit perlplexed.
