The last few weeks I've noticed a nagging pain in my knee following a fairly short run (5 miles) that included a large hill. At first, the pain was unbearable enough to even walk up/down stairs, bend over to tie shoes, run on, etc. After RICE, a few days off, and a visit to my local chiropractor, the pain decreased a lot. As I'm building up my mileage in preparation for cross country, I've continued to run pretty much everyday. At this point (from getting new shoes and running barefoot on grass) I've slowly started to fix my stride to prevent overstriding/heel striking. Pain I do feel at this point is more of a dull pain (not sharp pain) when I stop running (i.e waiting at stoplight or after run) with pain radiating around lower knee (hard to pinpoint exactly, sometimes pain seems to be coming from upper knee). My question for LR: Is it safe to continue training (building up to 60 mile weeks) with monitoring of stride and post-run icing/stretching? If so, suggestions for stretches would help as I'm limited to a few quad related stretches atm.
