Anyone else bummed out he's going to Chicago instead of going for an American record in Berlin? I'm curious to see his potential time on a fast course in a paced marathon. He'll have a good course but no pacers in Chicago.

$$$ If he wants pacers in Chicago I bet he/Alsal can get them.
I imagine he is playing it safe, since the men's field in the Berlin marathon is going to be loaded. Kipsang and Kipchoge are going to be focused on breaking the record, so the pace is going to be suicidal, for sure. I don't think Rupp or Alberto wants any part of that.
He would die a slow marathon death trying to keep up with the pacers in Berlin, so Chicago would be the better race. He can focus on his HIS race, and just concentrate on lowering his time. It will be a less intimidating situation.
The boston marathon ( he was the favorite) and the USA 10000m championship were let downs for him, so restoring confidence is the main priority.
