Does anyone think a person could be a professional distance runner (world standard times) and a pro UCI international or continental cyclist simultaneously? I think its physically possible with advanced training resources like gravity treadmills and whatnot, but the athlete would need a cycling team that allowed flexibility for racing and training.
Triathletes have a way to go, especially in cycling, but eliminating all focus on swimming could make the difference
Mario Mola and Alistair Brownlee are really damn fast runners in their own right.
The whole training specificity and cross interference would definitely play a factor, but I'm sure someone could figure out a training ratio to get the least interference. Either by science or by seeing what does and doesn't work.
12-14 hours a week of running plus 24-28 hours a week. Maybe a 1:2 running to cycling volume based on time. The athlete would absolutely have no social life.
Has anyone ever tried to do both at once? I know there have been athletes who converted sports.
