I created an iPhone app RouteBot. I found myself in a new city and wasn't sure exactly where to run, and I thought it would be neat if there was an app that could automatically create routes based off a location and some distance.
And that's what this app does. Give it a specific location (or have it use your current spot), enter the total distance you would like to run/walk/bike and then "RouteBot" will calculate several routes for you to choose from. Simple as that.
There is also an "elite" (sorry) version of this app that allows you to export routes as a gpx or kml file. These files can be loaded into a few mainstream running apps, so that you can continue using a specific run tracking app and have that app give you turn-by turn navigation.
