So the Head coach is retiring and CMU is now hiring in.
Is this a good job? Anyone have any inside info on Mount Pleasant? Thoughts?

I would say most likely not a good job at the moment.
Work and coach in the area. Have had athletes recruited to CMU and they have been told that the program is on severe scholarship and roster limits. Mentioned only being allowed to have 10 boys for XC of which hardly any were getting any scholarship. The University itself is supposedly struggling so I do not see them starting to support this program more than they do already which isn't much. I think they mainly keep a few of these programs on just to stay D1 and follow Title 9.
Word on the street here is that the distance coach will be hired as head. From everything I can tell both coaching and recruiting this is an absolute terrible idea. Super nice guy but can't recruit and can't really coach either. Look at how they "peaked" for outdoor MAC's will tell you all you need to know.
I take it that is Guthrie pictured? Looks like his athletes have medals on their necks?

No.

It may be Guthrie, but the only MAC medals his athletes would be wearing are participation medals. Check out the scoring table for goodness' sake.
http://live.finishtiming.com/#/results/meet/20170189/score-tableWow....this team is terrible. High schools are better.
Came down the grapevine that they red shirted a ton of talent..
Someone needs to revamp this program, it's full of talent. Look at the background of these kids, they all have crazy potential but Matthew Kaczor is not doing the job right.
The team currently has zero talent or else they would have scored at mac. Not that hard for a team to put a couple guys in scoring position in below average 5-10 k and steeple races.. I hate to say it but my old chips are a lost cause
So I mean you're partly correct. They are on scholarship limits (10 I believe) and roster limits (35 track and 15 XC for guys), but that's not counting those that are redshirted, so it's not really a roster limit. As for this past year, yes it was extremely extremely bad. Like bottom of D1 in the country bad. But to play devil's advocate here, they redshirted a bunch of people, guys and girls. They have a stud 400/200 guy that ran in indoors and then redshirted outdoors. A bunch of young distance guys were redshirted their freshman year as well as some of the sophomores in xc. One of their best distance girls was hurt year round in addition to alot of injuries on both fronts. This next year will be a huge difference with their incoming classes (lot of studs in the jumps and throws coming in) and with people coming out of redshirt, the job opening is actually fairly enticing. I have no idea what direction they will go with hiring, but the program is worth investing into. Alot of potential is there, they just need the right direction. No insults to the legend that is Mark Guthrie, but I feel like he has known it was time to retire for a while now, so maybe his heart/head wasn't 100% into it these past couple years.
You can lead a horse to water but it won't always drink. The coach is going to prohibit the continued success (or lack thereof)
I know this team has talent. I have an inside look at the program and it's the coaching that is at fault. Again and again these athletes are run into the ground by reckless training.
It can't be that bad of a program if the 2017 Division 1 State Champion in Michigan decided to go there....

Money talks...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETxmCCsMoD0I certainly hope that you are right. It is just hard to be optimistic given their recent history. I remember around 2012 when it looked the men's team was just "1 year away" from being competitive. Then, they weren't. Then, they weren't again. And again, and again...
As previously stated, CMU does not have that much money to give for this year's recruiting class. He could of went to MSU, U of M, EMU, hell out of state for that matter but he must of saw something there to make him stay.

That sounds nice, but we all know why all of their 4:15, 9:10, and 15:00 minutes guys are there....... money...
I'd say 9:07+ is a pretty decent talent indeed. Reckless training, that sucks when athletes get coaches who don't know what they're doing.

9:07.44, good for 2nd place. I'd go somewhere else if they didn't know what they were doing. Not much rest I hear either, just pound, pound, pound.

Hater alert....you've been warned.
Mount Pleasant is a terrible place to live but CMU is an OK school. Good programs/profs - but there is good reason why everyone leaves to go home on the weekends. The town is dogsh!t with zero culture and infested with Mid-Michigan redneck trash. It's flat, windy, and boring. There is absolutely no reason to go to that school unless they are paying you to be there either with a Centralis scholarship, athletic scholarship, or if the school happens to hire you on its administrative staff.
Let's also talk about the student body. Preppy frat douches whose parents couldn't pony up the cash for them to go to MSU and love to fight and binge drink. Girls are extremely hot, however, and probably better looking that most GVSU chicks.
Let's be honest, Mid-Michigan (including Lansing) is just a sh!t hole. The only saving grace for that area is running up in Bath Township or at Lake Lansing North trails. Okemos people think they are all cultured and special....it's laughable. Enjoy life in your glorified corn field.
At least with WMU you are close to Chicago and Lake Michigan. At least with EMU you are close to Ann Arbor and not a bad drive from the nice Detroit burbs (Royal Oak, Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham) or downtown Detroit which is the shit.
Like I've said - you've been warned. #shotsfired
