Thank dog I'm a cat person
This might be the first ricochet bullet accident I've heard in my life.
One last kid to pay these g-d d-mn cops' pension.
Anything Robert Johnson writes is worse than anything you've read today, this week, this month..,.
Amazing how the maintenance guys at my apartment complex manage to go into units with dogs all the time without shooting them, while people who are supposedly trained to deal with conflict seem to need to open fire the second they see a dog.
Do they not even train cops to use their guns? Shooting at a dog running around in a local area is beyond stupid.
And a white kid at that. The cop is going to prison.
According to the police account, deputies were called to an apartment in Palmdale, a city 60 miles north of Los Angeles, just before 4 a.m. Thursday to investigate a report of “loud music.†They approached the apartment in question and were “aggressively charged†by a 60 to 65-pound pit bull, authorities said. The dog bit one of the deputies on the knee.
Why would anyone try to "save" a pit bull that was attacking anyone????????
I have no sympathy for cops, but no one should be trying to save those dangerous creatures.
“Detectives believe when the juvenile came out from behind the building, which was approximately 40 feet away from where the shooting occurred with the dog, the juvenile may have been struck by one of the skip rounds.â€
They outright shot the kid, and it was no accident.

Is there proof that it was attacking anyone?

It bit one of the cops in the knee. Somehow the boy took it behind the garage, then it came charging out on it's own, with no leash, and no one in control of it.
There's the possibility that the cops shot the kid when he was behind the garage, which could be why the dog ran back out, which makes more sense than the official story.
Dog will hunt.
This is BS though: wrote:

That was my first thought as well
I was reading that typically bullets only ricochet if they strike the ground at an angle between 10 and 35 degrees. That means they would have shot the kid from a range of less than ~14 feet or more than ~51 feet (assuming the gun is held around 5 feet high and the kids chest is 4 feet high). If thats the case then 40 feet would be a pretty big misguess considering they would have made a rough measurement at the scene. Even in the case that it was an accident the cop either would have had to shoot at a dog knowing there is a person on the other side of it or shoot at a dog without even knowing what else was in that direction. Theres no excuse anyway you look at it. Send the guy to jail.
It's California. About what I'd expect.
What part of "behind the building" do you not understand?
If ever a thread deserved to be deleted, this is it.
You sound like an expert, seems like you spend a lot of time at the range.
It says the round was deflected of the driveway and into him. It also says says it hit the driveway 6-8 feet from where the shot was taken so logic would imply that it would be back at chest height 6-8 feet from where it hit the ground so it seems a little odd that it struck a boy in the chest 40 feet away doesn't it? Not to mention at 5 feet away how do two trained cops both miss? These are the kind of guys we are giving guns to? People who can't aim and take dangerous shots towards the ground in a local neighborhood?
I had a rant prepared about how glad I was the cops took one more thug off the streets and how the SJW's are going to clog traffic with their protests, but now I learn the kid is white? Are we sure about this? Totally wrecks the narrative.
“My nephew was trying to save the dog because the cops started shooting at the dog,â€
One future PETA loon down.

And yes, cops do have a harder job than most people realize. Part of the reason that we have so many cop killings is the prevalence of guns, poor mental health awareness and treatment, and a culture of violence.
But this situation seems a bit egregious.
