So I got a speeding ticket a week ago, and I just tried to pay it online. When I enter the citation number and the date it occurred, the system says:
"Citation number not on record, verify and re- enter the citation number and offense date."
I have rechecked 3 times, and the citation # is correct since it is printed on my copy of the ticket. The date, however, is written in police scribble, and he did not fill out all 3 boxes (MM/DD/YY); he just wrote some illegible scribble in the middle box. It looks like a 5 or a 9, but the incident took place on the 13th (yeah, my lucky day). I am 100% certain that that is the date because I was late for an appointment. That's the date I entered and which led to the above message.
I tried to reach someone on the phone about this, but it's a one hour wait time.
My question: Is the fact that the date was ambiguously recorded on the citation possible grounds for dismissal? If so, should I request a Court Hearing?
