So basically while traveling out of state my I fell while hiking and dislocated my shoulder.
I was in a lot a pain and didn't want to damage the shoulder by attempting to restore so I ended up in the emergency room as the only option to get checked out.
I have Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance and my plan said I was covered out of network in emergencies, so I figured it wouldn't be too expensive.
I ended up staying about 3 hours in the emergency room. They gave me morphine on IV to kill the pain before the doctor came about an hour later and was able to pop my shoulder back in a minute.
After sitting around two more hours waiting for and X-Ray (they said I couldn't go without one to make sure no bones were broken) and then to sign release paper work I finally got out of there.
I forgot the bill today and it ended up being $1900 with insurance paying only $400, so I am on the line for $1500.
Something is definitely wrong with our health care system! How can a visit cost this much when all I got was a few painkillers, saw the doctor for five minutes, and was forced to have an X-ray?
The Republicans have to fix this. Blue Cross Blue Shield is the only insurance option in my state.
