i been trying to make a case for 6'4 Kerley v 6'0 wade but i can't
formulas i get are :
400 = ( 200 split * 2 ) + 1.00
400 = ( 300 split * ( 4/3 ) ) + 0.50
i been trying to make a case for 6'4 Kerley v 6'0 wade but i can't

it's off little interest but wade split 20.5 / 31.0 in 43.03
above indicates :
off 200 ->42.0
off 300 ->41.83
prelim method i use is for "too-quick" splits to take average of them with final clocking ->
( 41.83 + 43.03 ) * 0.5 =
42.43
i'm bit shocked but i have to go with prelim
wade in rio was likely capable of 42-mid
his ideal 200/300 splits that day were :
~ 20.71
31.44
for 42.43
these are ideal splits i suggest for him & he is hugely quicker than anyone before or now
for some guidance, i suggest ideal 200/300 splits for various 400 clockings ( i don't bother with a 100 split as only marking on track is in lane-1 at 1500m start )
52.00 -> 25.5 / 38.6
50.00 -> 24.5 / 37.12...
...
45.00 -> 22.0 / 33.75
44.00 -> 21.5 / 32.62
43.00 -> 21.0 / 31.87
i suppose a prelim take home message is that if you want to run 43-flat, don't go out quicker than 21.0, then push to 300 in 31-high & just hang on !!!
bottom line : any 200 splits apart from legendary runs in history near 21-flat were totally suicidal !!!
bump
Fred shoud look for no more than
21-low
The empirical evidence shows us, 400m is not an even split race for the most elite sprinters.
I am not 100% convinced... in the past there were certainly many greats of 400m running that had incredibly quick finishes, but I am not sure if that is universally the best way to run it... Your math makes sense... but only for the strongest finishers. Van Niekerk in 43.flat shape and 9.94 shape will absolutely run 19.2 at the worst, and if he gets his tactics right is capable of snatching Bolt's 200m record. Trust me, you haven't seen anything yet...
A (very inaccurate) approximation that shows what I mean
MJ vs WVN
10.09 - 9.94 = 0.15 (100m difference)
43.18 - 43.03 = 0.15 (400m difference)
by shaky logic one might deduce that he will also be about .15 faster over 200m which would put him at
19.32 - 0.15 = 19.17!!!!!!
his 19.84 is absolutely nowhere near his potential. He is faster over 100m and 400m than MJ, so there is little chance that he will not be also faster over 200m
i don't recall too many weak finishers....
don't worry too much
i said ~ 43.4 if paced it proper -> 18.9+ equivalent for 200
( i use
19.75 = 44.00
for "mathematical equivalent" )
given he may not be 200 runner then/now, a tenth+ added on is unpresumptious
in rio he maya actually been in
19.0/19.1
& this 19.8 is his is usual horse-sh!t-playing possum
it is a natural consequence of ~ 42.4
but i have no interest in seeing some stain on the track collapsed out on it for a year requiring paramedics to shovel him off
if the effort kills him, then let a priest be waiting to give him last rites or have coe with 400J defib paddles waiting at finish...
you did very well until using 10.09
that was totally 0 season for him when he had 19.94sb & i've read the 10.09 was in semi when he got hurt & no final
in atlanta he destroyed 9.8/9.9 guys on the bend
he was in
~ 9.7-mid/high
he wouda destroyed bailey if "19.32" was actually a 100 effort
see above
he was in 19.0/19.1, last year, so expect that in london with defib pads waiting, which of course he'll shun away & naturally recover after 10 - 20' splayed out on track
however, in in spirit of prophylaxis, it is vitally important to have a 400/800J defib at finish line, so the instant he collapses, iaaf is ready to save his life
no
not in mj's 210 pound shape in atlanta he wasn't
how many 210 sprinters you heard off ?
yes
probably by ~ 0.5s
keep the jacked-up kit waiting for immediate application at 1st hint of collapse onto track or just administer it regardless, the immediate moment he crosses line in any london final :
I am crying tears of laughter... Calculo is truly something else.
Why don't you just write this stuff out on some paper, scrunch it up into a ball, and shove it up your behind?
speedendurance.com has a good article on this.
These rough numbers actually work very well:
1st 200 split should be 1s slower than 200 PR.
2nd 200 split should be 2s slower than that.
So, for a 20.0 man: 21.0/23.0 --> 44.0
For a 19.5 runner: 20.5/22.5 --> 43.0
