Shoutout to all those who competed at Nationals this past week, now let's get the discussion rolling.
Team wise, Loras seems to be the heavy favorite, returning their top 5 from the conference meet, and 9 of their top 11. Nebraska Wesleyan and Wartburg could offer some competition if they bring in a few guys.
Individually, seems pretty wide open to me. Alec Bass is the top returner and had a stellar indoor season, but Eli Kaczinski won both the 10k and 5k at Conference. Mark Fairley placed 2nd at Nationals in the steeple and has tremendous foot speed, so he'll be right there. Mason Tope is a 2 time all american in cross and ran the 10k at Nationals, plus he was the Central Regional champ in cross. And Timothy Sevcik was 2nd at Conference in 2015, and it looked like he spent most of the 2016 cross season injured, but he had a very solid track season. And Jordan Wheeler also ran the 10k at Nationals. Overall, I see 6 guys who all have a shot to win it all.
So my predictions look like this:
Team:
Loras
Nebraska
Wartburg
Central
Luther
Individual:
Kaczinski
Fairley
Tope
Bass
Sevcik
Wheeler
And then guys like Rathje, Nugent, Carroll, Appleton, Gandul, Vasquez, Adams, Finnegan and Specht will fill in the rest of all-conference
