I'm finishing freshman year and my 1600m PR is 5:45(low mileage about 20mpw) What could I run for XC based off of an average of 40 mpw during the summer? How many mpw should I run during the season?

apples to oranges. If I were to guess 19:00-18:45
When I ran 5:35 I ran 18:00
Depends. My freshman year (last year) I ran a 5:07 but my XC pr was a 18:18, ran a 5:30 mile in 8th grade to a 19:19 5k freshman year. My base mileage was high, but weekly was around 30 (15-25 in track).

You could only do 5:37 for one mile but could string together 3.1 @ 5:48?
18:30

So many things determine this -- how physically mature you are, if you are in a growth spurt during the season, etc. Getting hp to 40 MPW is a good idea. If you do that by end of summer, I would keep it there until your target races toward the end of the season...if it's not a state meet, then Districts or Regionals or Conference. Only need to drop it down to 35.
Then take a week of and begin training for indoor, and if no indoor season, train for outdoor.
Summer training begins now. Or do you mean August?
You could build to 40mpw before the end of June.
I wouldn't be shocked to hear that you run under 18 if you really get to 40 and maintain it. Mileage and consistency matter.
Good luck
Summer Training begins on June 10th. I can't run after school now because of drivers ed and a nail plate surgery in a few days.
