lots of female athletes marry their coaches (college girls after they graduate, for ex). actresses marry directors (or just have affairs). bosses boink subordinates. working closely together has been shown to be a recipe for lust.
but coach and student is always wrong, and the responsbility to maintain the proper relationship rests with the coach.
My son and daughter are both college runners. My son tells me a certain school in Pennsylvania just had a XC/T&F coach shown the door for inappropriate behavior with a female athlete. Sad thing is, this coach did the exact same thing at two other schools, maybe more. I can't help but be concerned for my daughter, who has male coaches. This sort of thing obv happens, and it doesn't always seem to be a career-ender for the coach.

1. Carter appears to have mental illness, and should probably be locked up
2. The school and head coach did nothing wrong, as they went to the police and suspended Carter immediately upon hearing of abuse. 20 year olds are old enough to take responsibility for their mistakes, sleep with who they want, it is not the college's job to babysit them.
3. University departments (not just athletics) are notorious for ignoring professor-student relationships, no different in athletics. Maybe the rules should actually be enforced, but this would not benefit the institution and their funding structures, which is why things are swept under the rug, also because of the grey area in said relationships.
The story is wrong about a lot of things. It's sad that something like this can get told the way ESPN told it. It's sad because it's not a fair representation of Baillie. It's extremely one sided. ESPN didn't even try to hear what people had to say that didn't agree with their tilt.

Yes, thank you, wejo. The guy used a position of authority to wield control over someone and literally threaten their life amd threaten to cause harm to others. The evidence for that is undeniable. There is very little about this story that is okay.

Most you having never spent time with collegiate and post collegiate throwing coaches. Whats not discussed is a culture of steroids used by coaches personally. Much of this particular coaches in and out fits of rage are typical as a side result of steroid usage. Have you heard the term "roid rage".
You ask why would a non competitive coach still be using? Basic,they still like being fit and strong and "the man" in front of their throwing athletes, its an ego thing. Collegiate football teams weight room culture are a part of this power strength culture.
Ask yourselves when is the last time you heard about a PED bust in collegiate football or track? A bigger question is how often are teams tested and are coaches tested.
Good point about the possibility of coaches using PEDs. In this case, for what it's worth, Carter's main professional athlete was Jillian Camarena Williams, who served a six month drug suspension after testing positive. Wonder if she also knew what was going on with Carter and Gibson (seems hard to hide) but didn't say anything?
I believe this Coach was absolutely in the wrong just like Wejo said, "he threatened her life" or at least "threatened" to ruin her life in some form or fashion. However, I do believe your statement about throwing coaches and wanting to still be the "man" is true, but what is not true is, "roid rage." Steroids do not give you rage. They give you the feeling of inferior or what have you, but the steroid user that says it was "roid rage" was already an a-hole before roids in 99% of the cases. I bet if you look way back into Coach Carters personal life, and I mean as far back as adolescents, I bet there were signs of instability but it was overlooked because of everyone wanted to be around the cool kid. Add steroids and sex and you have something more lethal than "roid rage." This is by no means justifying his actions as he should suffer the consequences of his actions.

Then why didn't she get a TUE? If she was legitimately prescribed a drug, certainly she would check it against the banned list before taking it, no? Instead, this only came to light *after* she tested positive. I'd also direct your attention to this sentence from the USADA website: "Clomiphene has also appeared as an undeclared ingredient in black market products sold on the internet for performance-enhancing use." At the end of the day, I think it is appropriate to be very skeptical of any excuse offered for a positive drug test, especially in the throws.
