I was diagnosed with a grade 3 femoral shaft stress fracture a year ago. Followed my recovery plan and have run two marathons since. I am training for Ironman this year. All along the way there would be periods here and there when I would experience some mild tightness, ache/burning, or a 'sensation' in the effected thigh. I would not categorize it as pain. It would come and go but running never hurt. I recently ran a 10k race and have had some mild achiness in that thigh since and I am starting to get paranoid that I have reinjured my femur. BUT I am able to run comfortably. The soreness happens the next day. I've read about residual nerve and scar tissue issues post stress fracture. Is that something real? I was told by my sports medicine doctor last year that my stress fracture has progressed so badly that it was almost a full break. Curious about other people's long term experiences with stress fracture. Is it common to have residual sensations? Are you constantly paranoid about reinjury? Did you reinjure the same bone even though you changed your running g habits for the better? Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts!
