So does this sound like a sold way to do a tempo run for a 5,000 guy? 3 one mile laps untimed but based off effort. Then 4 fast 220s at mile effort.Do any of you run your tempo runs off effort no time taken?Just effort.Does this idea help prevent racing?I am a 5k runner.
Doing your tempo runs by effort is a very good idea. If you're doing it on the track, though, you might want to have a pace in mind so as to avoid going too fast. 5k pace + 10% is good for a 3-4 mile tempo run. Hit the pace, recover a bit afterward by jogging, let the pace pick back up until you feel ready. Then crank the 200s.
