Did anyone else go to the UNCC meet this weekend? I'm appalled. I coach at a D3 in Ohio and I've never seen a worse run meet than this one.
During the Javelin, the officials were letting people warm up on the infield, literally right next to the sector. Only the grace of God kept someone from getting kabobed. And athletes warming up with head phones not even pay attention to the Jav. Then they threw discus opposite of the Jav, throwing into each other, which was a train wreck.
ETSU women handed off about four steps out of the final exchange zone in the 4x1 but no officials were watching.
In the long jump, an athlete got creamed because he walked across the runway during someone's attempt, and the officials did nothing to stop him. Field events were started late and poorly officiated, especially the LJ and TJ where the lady marking was terrible and clearly didn't care about being accurate or anything.
During the 4x4s, there were no officials in the curves, and no one policing the track to make sure the lanes were clear. Then a UNCC media guy ran across one of the heats with a camera, getting in everyone's way.
Why even have rules if these schools and meet directors aren't going to follow them? Headphones on the infield? Cmon. Athletes warming up next to Jav sector? Terrible policing of lanes, runways, etc. Honestly it was embarrassing. Worst meet management I've ever seen at any level.
Great facility and some good times, but if these idiots don't learn how to run a meet, someone's going to get hurt.
