About 8 weeks ago I went out for a bicycle ride, hit black ice, fell and fractured my humerus. It could have been worse. A car had just passed within seconds at the same spot.
The doctor, an orthopedist, originally told me I could be back to running in 4 to 5 months. At week 3 I was given the ok to walk. Now at week 8 the doctor says I can start light jogging next week! He stressed though that I am not to fall!
One thing I was not told originally was that it is common to have a sore shoulder in the morning. In my case it is severe soreness that started at week 4. This soreness wakes me up hours earlier than I usually would awaken but it goes away within 10-20 minutes if I get up and start moving.
If anyone has this injury or any injury for that matter I wish you a speedy recovery and many more years or decades of great running. Having people around you that care, care no less than 100%, is so important to healing. I hope this posting will give hope to someone and add to the healing.
