Do you mean mediocre among teams in the current NFL season? Mediocre as a playoff team? They won a lot this year (and I hate them).
It's like I said.
The Packers had lost both their #1 and #2 running backs and were starting a wide receiver at rb. The Packers also played without their #1 receiver.
Packers started a free-agent rookie as their #1 cornerback, as their normal #1 and #2 cornerbacks were out. They also lost their starting safety and inserted a free-agent rookie who never plays.
...and they still beat the Cowboys.
Then, Packers get killed by Atlanta.
Yes, the Cowboys were overrated.
A mediocre team doesn't win 13 games in a season & earn a #1 seed. Cowboys were elite whether you arm chair QBs are able to realize that or not.
Ty Montgomery isn't a WR playing RB. He's a RB (started at Stanford at RB, drafted as a RB) who was playing some WR and then got moved back to RB.
Anyway, Dallas wasn't "mediocre" unless 90-95% of the league is sub-mediocre, which violates the basic meaning of the word. They may have been mediocre amongst playoff teams due to their non-descript defense.
My opinion is different from yours: I think Dallas was better than Green Bay and simply lost the game. Rodgers is a tremendous QB and they got a little lucky in addition. Dallas would have fared better against Atlanta b/c they game would've been in Dallas. The Falcons are built to play at home and front-run: Great passing offense w/ an elite QB and WR, trap blocking and quick RBs, and a light, fast defense that plays best from ahead when they can fly to the QB b/c they opposing team is behind and has to pass. Elliot's running ability and the great Dallas line would've been a problem for Atlanta's under-sized D-line.
Doesn't really matter, though. The Patriots are the most complete team with the most poised QB and will probably beat whomever they play.
Dallas would have fared better against Atlanta b/c **the** game would've been in Dallas.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
