Dan is a TOTAL legend in our book. I'd rather use the bully pulpit to shame the insurance company to pay for chemo. How can they deny chemo?
If you know the details or of a way for us to contact Pfaff or someone associated with him, please email me
How can they deny chemo? Repeal ACA?
We have received word that Dan has sent the following email out.
"Friends, I am not comfortable with this well intentioned effort. Please hold off on donations and please reclaim for those who have.
We are not in an impossible or dire situation here and I am confident that we will eventually have insurance coverage. I am overwhelmed by the thoughts, messages and efforts but can not accept these funds in good faith. There are truly people in a bad way so please donate to those who are truly in peril."
Ryan and Robert thanks for supporting Dan. When he was a coach at Texas 20 years ago, he took the time out of his busy schedule to mail me workouts and offer me coaching suggestions.
I had nothing to do with the Gofunme account expect for sharing it on social media. However, I can echo Dan has and continues to be a major influence on the coaching world. He checks all the boxes on making an athlete great and has done numerous reclamation projects which can be the most difficult aspect of elite track coaching. Often many athletes turn to him when they are struggling. Altis has become an amazing organization made in the image of Dan and his colleague John Godina.
People should continue to contribute, as Dan is a modest guy and always thinks of others and not himself. The fact is the way the story goes is multple carriers have decided to leave the Texas system and it results in people depending on them for healthcare have been stranded. Dan may have a "broker" working to get him care, but in the meantime he is sitting home suffering with no treatment, and no definite solution timeline is assured. This problem needs to be fixed, but no matter whether its fixing Obamacare, or coming up with something new, that's all irrelevant at this juncture. It's not going to get solved in a month or two, and this guy has helped so many people that if we as a track and field collective can get him the help he needs now, then we don't have to have a post on this website after he dies of cancer, where we all talk about how great he was. He's alive right now. Lets Help him damnit!
Agree with the previous poster! Let's not depend on the insurance industry to be expedient or do what is right. Dan has been there for others; his contributions have been stellar and with generosity. I hope he has a long and enjoyable life.
