In a serious attempt rudisha could break 45, no problem.

He can click off 33s 300s like clockwork in workouts. He can do it.

No he would not. His actual PB is 45.50. His 45.15 was at altitude which is a significant aid at 400m.

As demonstrated by Brazier, low mileage 800 beasts are possible. And with the low mileage, they are competitive because of their speed, not necessarily their endurance. So my guess is one of them will do it in the next 3 years. The thing is, neither has the incentive to go run a 44.XX and get 6th in their heat of the 800.

Rudisha, Berian and Amos are strong candidates. Amos ran a 44 flat or 43.9 relay?

neither Berian (46.93) nor Brazier (47.01) is anywhere close and probably don't have the potential to. I don't think you realize how good sub-45 (open race, not relay split) really is.

Berians PBs don't mean much. He became phenomenal in just one year, taking his 1:46 down to 1:43. He has reportedly run a session of 46.3, 47.4

Both are fast enough. Neither have run truly competitive 400s on the world stage. All it takes is a diamond league 400m.

Serious question. If Brazier doesn't have world class wheels, then how can he run a 1:43 at like 30 mpw?

And Berian ran a 49.Xx indoors the first lap of the Indoor World Championships. That means he was likely in shape to run at worst low 46 in the open 400 that day. Put him outdoors at altitude, he could and I bet he WOULD do it.

I haven't run a Diamond League 400 either. Simply participating in a race where others run sub 45 does not give you the ability to run sub 45. His outdoor season best was 47.02, I'm sure he could break into the 46's but 44's is just a totally different level.

For real yo. 44 flat won Olympic gold not that long ago.

44 flat will make you the 15th fastest 400m runner of ALL TIME.

Ok granted Berian might struggle, I see him more as a 45 mid guy.

However Rudisha and Amos are still very strong candidates.
