Are they actually clean or do they dope?? Some could argue that they aren't clean. I'd really hate to see them use EPO's or whatever they're called but it could be a possibility

But what about Centro
i'd find it hard to believe Centro dopes, but you never know today. After watching him win gold at the Oly 2016 he just went in there and won it running slower than his qualifying rounds. Pretty sure he just out smarted the field, got lucky they all played into it, he positioned himself very well in the last lap and got a decent kick.
No, no, and no.
No but im not losing any sleep over it

decent kick = secret sauce
Good question, if I had to put money on a guess I'd say none of them are clean, I'd like to know but we'll never know for sure (unless they fail a test).
Because I refuse to live the unjoyful life of a cynic, I will choose to believe they are clean until evidence other than fast times are used to incriminate them.
Note that this doesn't mean I believe they are playing on a level playing field, but that is a concept that exists only in our minds.
sure, why not.
I mean I hope they are but I doubt Mo and Galen are. Both are coached by Salazar, so that's why I think they're doping.

I would say 98% likely they are doping in some form or another. At best, some micro-dosing and BS TUEs.

You never get away with it forever if you dope. They are tested more than anyone else so if they dope they will get caught eventually.
I happen to know a former athlete out there who says it's 100 bs what came out last year but this is letsrun so I doubt anyone wants to hear that...
I think that if you're being coached by Salazar, you're pushing the boundaries of what you can get away with. Rupp, for a world class athlete, is awfully "sick" a lot...
I've written this here many times about Centro and have never received a response- he won a BRONZE medal at worlds while an Oregon Duck. Global champs in his life- 3rd, 4th, 2nd, 8th, 1st. The outlier is 8th!!!!!
IF you assume that Oregon does not dope, as I do, there is no reason to believe that he is not clean. He hasn't run any crazy times and has placed similarly to where he placed as a collegiate athlete with pretty normal variation.
My instinct—and little more—says Centro is clean, maybe Mo too.
Galen is my favorite pro runner in the world. Always has been. That said, when Epstein's ProPublica and BBC piece was released summer of 2015, I found that reporting very sobering. I'm a journalist as well as a coach, and here's the thing: everyone Epstein talked with who accused Rupp and Salazar of doping was someone who beyond doubt was there at Nike and had reasons to know the truth. They were not sketchy witnesses who may or may not have had access to the situation at hand, they were world-class people in the field like Steve Magness (PhD in physiology, head XC coach at Houston now, former asst coach at OP). Magness had no reason to lie, no reason burn bridges with Nike at all. Dude's still young and an up and coming college coach, why anger Nike unless he believed in the truth?
Then there was Salazar's letter of rebuttal to these investigative reports. It was what, 12 pages long? And it still didn't really address a couple of the more crucial issues Epstein raised. Again, I've worked in journalism—both sports and industrial journalism. Salazar's letter read like the bullcrap that many companies put out when accused on something nasty and they're trying to do damage control. I write for a living, I could even spot where it seemed a Nike PR hack had gone through and helped write a section—there were places not quite in Salazar's own voice though most of it came from Salazar himself.
I admire Rupp so much, and I admire Salazar, too. I don't want to think ill of them at all. But Epstein's work as a journalist has been sterling. Magness has a great reputation too. Kara Goucher? She truly seems like someone hurt and upset by things she believes are wrong. So yeah, I think Rupp may be doping and if so, look at Salazar, not Rupp for blame because Salazar started coaching him at 15 and some of Magness' claims of doping appear to stretch back to those teen years.
The ProPublica report was one of the hardest things I ever had to read in my life. Someone is lying, and it's either the Salazar/Rupp camp whom I greatly admire or Epstein or Magness, both of whom I also greatly admire. It's like all my heroes wrapped up in this sick controversy.
Well written, Florida Coach, and I agree.
Thanks, man, I'm glad someone does. Sometimes when I've said this, I've been hounded by the Rupp fanboys. But thing is, who has something to gain and who doesn't? If the claims of doping are false, making or repeating them could only hurt people like Magness and Epstein who stake their careers on their integrity in running-associated fields. In contrast, Salazar has every incentive to win, therefore incentive enough to cheat.
I don't think it will ever be settled, though. If they're cheating, I think OP has the science down pat and won't be caught. And if they're in fact not doping, it's very sad for them then that the science is such this cannot be proven nor disproven.
I would say Magness and Goucher had much more incentive with the report coming out. Goucher's career is over and she now is a spokesman for a competitor of Nike. Every women at that company hates Nike. Goucher and her company have stayed in the news due to this.
Magness has made a name for himself through this, not so much as a coach. So I would say it was a great career move by him.
I don't think Epstein lied about anything, he wrote what he was told. Many of his points were disproven (Magness saw mystery pills which turned out to be antibiotics which Steve knew about in emails) but some points will never be proven one way or another. I guess only time will tell.
If you believe people can cheat for self serving interests, then you better believe people can lie for self serving interests. Be careful where you place your trust. Sometimes the perceived good people are actually the bad people. And that's where things enter the diabolical. Sleep tight.
