Just started training for a marathon and have an income now so I've been looking at Garmins this week and have my eye on the Forerunner 230 ($250 MSRP) and the Forerunner 35 ($200 MSRP). They are both in my price range, so one big thing I'm looking at is the heart rate features. The 35 has "wrist based" heart rate and the 230 (which seems much cooler and more advanced) has the option of adding a strap for 50 dollars more (but maybe you can get a third party one that works for cheaper?). Never used a heart rate monitor before, so out of everyone's experience, is the wrist based heart rate just as accurate as the strap? And is the strap annoying? This'll be a big factor in what I choose since the wrist one would be 24 hour (like a fit bit) and I could find out my resting rate, all for much cheaper than the 230. Some other questions, is the GPS any more accurate on more advance models? Have you found the added fancy features on the 230+ watches useful or just added hassle? And add anything that isn't really in the description already. Thanks.
(P.S. moving up from a Soleus GPS will probably be a big step up regardless haha)
