It doesn't work like that.

You may be right about this guy, or you may not be. It is a simpleton's point of view filled with hollywood themed generalizations.
Either way it doesn't matter. The point of the article is that the dude is a convict and is running inside prison. It was an interesting read. It isn't meant to say this guy is better than all the lets runners(I suspect those of you that are outraged by this article might be mad that he is faster than you while in prison) or to say he is a good dude.
Rapist? What's your point OP? He could have literally been in there for anything and it wouldn't have mattered. Everyone is in prison for a reason. They were celebrating this guy at all. You obviously missed the gist and message of the whole story. The story was more about hard work, dedication, and commitment; you're making it seem like they were glorifying this rapist for his actions.
So another prison lover emerges. Told "bars jail" that he was not alone. Register or go to jail. You can run but you can't hide you sickos.

Looks like my comment about a prisoner being faster may have struck a nerve with someone...

**Komen was once caught jaywalking
***Bekele cheated on a math test in 7th grade
and no.... i am not saying that being a sex offender is similar to jaywalking or cheating on a test. Im saying that their accomplishments have nothing to do with their personal lives. I realized the sex offender is a little different, because his treadmill running was while he was in jail for being a sex offender, but the article was about his running. I don't see why you need some asterisk next to his running story stating that hes a piece of shit.
That is not a little different that is a lot different.
And NO this article was not just about his running. This article was about his running WHILE IN PRISON. You think they would have published this story if he wasn't in prison?
One thing I don't understand is why sex offenders are branded for life (even the 18 year old kid who have sex with his 17 and half year old gf), as if they can never become a better person...

I'm a little surprised that this surprises you, because to me it seems pretty apparent--because some sex offenders have committed heinous crimes, and repeatedly, and recidivism is high.
This causes simpletons to paint them all with a broad brush... and if there is anything the US is famed for, it is simpletons generalizing with hatred.

Yes it does, sometimes.
when you say recidivism is high, are you making a general statement or one specific to this type of crime? Recidivism is very high for prisoners (much less if they get involved in hs/college programs in prison) in general but I recall from previous stories on these subjects involving recurrent re-commission of sex offenders to longer and longer sentences after they served their time (the New York Times had a series on Jersey policies about a decade ago) that recidivism rates are actually lower than for the general prison population. As for this inmate, he was sentenced for sexual battery committed over 10 years ago but no information about his crime was in the stories I saw. You do the time and then you should be able to re-enter society, unless you want to pay $100k/year and up for life for every criminal to stay in prison on life sentences.

From what I recall (I had to look into it for a class many years ago) states had statutes from age differences if one party was under the age of 18 to avoid just such a situation.
Just canceled my subscription to rw.
Just sayin love how people 'defend' criminals.. wow no excuses.. if your a creep your a creep.... sorry just sayin...
We live in a world where everyone ones a victim.... I'm sure there are exceptions... but please they are rare not the norm. This guy wasn't an exception. Call it for what it is. Do defend a creep.
RW writes "thinkpieces" about women being harassed while running.
RW writes this article.
Good job, cognitive dissonance.

Nope I am faster than his treadmill run on Boston course with a crowd and weather to deal with. Maybe if he had it on 15% incline the whole time it is comparable and he'd be faster than me. But there are a lot of people faster than me and I am sure some of them are sex offenders. Got no problem with their speed.
Already stated my opinion and you can't absorb it because you are busy trying to defend a concept of sexual assault that makes You feel better and self righteous. Sometimes right and wrong is simple. Not always but yes generally it is.

Yea we all believe how fast you are.
I didn't say a damn word about right and wrong. We all know it's wrong. What isn't wrong is writing an interesting article about a convict running and using an actual convict to do so. End of story.
Convicted of what. That was the point of the criticism. Journalism 101: more truth is better than less truth. The author purposefully left out the crime. It is an odd journalistic choice, and would appear to have no purpose other than to make the subject more appealing to readers. More appealing less informative and truthful. Maybe for a job applicant but not for a journalist.
That was the point of the criticism. This thread is about the criticism not whether it is interesting.
And glad to match race you anytime you want. Can't say I'd win but if you think sub 4:15 is "fast" then I think I have a pretty good shot. I don't even define that as fast. Do you? Doing 6.55 mph for 4 hours on a treadmill may equate to 26.2 but not to a Boston 4:15. 2 different things entirely.
Maybe the criminal will register next time he moves then can register for Boston. Might have to get that qualifying time down.
Sure ill race you, then again idk how we'd settle this discussion with that.
I guess we agree to disagree. I dont think it matters what he did, 99% of the people reading the story don't know or care. Some things just aren't worth getting all ruffled about. We need to remember who the target audience is.
